Ugas will win by being a crafty boxer. He's a slick guy and will outbox Porter. For Porter to win, he's gonna have to smother Ugas and rough him up. Shawn Porter and Yordenis Ugas fight Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park for the WBC welterweight title.

Shawn Porter enters this fight with a 29-2 record that includes 17 knockouts. Porter has won five of his last six fights, and he’s coming off a September win over Danny Garcia. Porter has won three straight fights since the loss to Keith Thurman and will be defending his WBC welterweight title for the first time. Porter is 31 years old, stands at 5’6”, has a 69-inch reach and an orthodox stance. Porter is truly one of the more underrated boxers in the world, as he may not have the sexy style casual fans prefer, but he’s technically sound and has a high IQ. Porter is a quality defensive fighter who bobs and weaves punches well, and he’s highly effective with his counters. Porter doesn’t have elite punching power, as eight of his last 11 wins have ended in decision, but he does a lot of the little things well and is always the aggressor. Porter is going to let his hands go and usually looks good when it’s time to hand the fight over to the judges. Porter has also never clearly lost a fight, as you can make a case he outboxed Thurman and beat Kell Brook. This will be Porter’s fifth career fight in California.

Yordenis Ugas enters this fight with a 23-3 record that includes 11 knockouts. Ugas has won each of his last eight fights, and he’s coming off a September win over Cesar Miguel Barrionuevo. Ugas hasn’t lost since his 2014 bout to Amir Imam and has a chance at the biggest win of his career to date. Ugas is a 32-year-old Cuban who stands at 5’9”, has a 69-inch reach and an orthodox stance. Ugas is a decorated boxer with olympic medals to his name, and while he has a lot of questionable names on his pro resume, there’s no denying his ability. Ugas is a smooth athlete who doesn’t take a lot of punishment and puts his punches together quite nicely. Ugas throws very clean combinations to the body and has a right hand that has dropped many past opponents. Ugas simply has to remember to stay busy and not spend a lot of the time looking to land that one haymaker that may never come. This will be Ugas’ first career fight in California.

Ugas is a live dog in this fight given his smooth attack, his ability to put combinations together and the power in his right hand that can win any bout if landed cleanly. The problem that I have here is that Porter is the more physical fighter between the two and his work rate could very well wear down Ugas over time. Ugas isn’t used to being in the ring with guys such as Porter, who dictate pace and bring the fight to him, and it’s going to take some adjusting. Porter showed in the Garcia fight just how effective he can be when he keeps the foot on the pedal for 12 rounds, and he also ate some brutal right hands, which gives me confidence he can survive Ugas.

A must-watch fight, but Porter should get the victory within a decision.

Main event for the WBC welter weight belt
This fight has gone under the radars, it’s the welter weight division wich is the best and the most stacked division rigt now and it’s for the WBC belt, wich is for me the best belt in Boxing.
But we dont hear much about this fight wich is kind of surprising to be honest but I think it’s because we have a huge fight coming up next week with Spence vs Garcia and everybody is looking for this fight. Plus, let’s be honest Porter is not the most popular fighter and Ugas is kind of an unknown for the general public or for the boxing fan that just watch couple fights a year, just the big one.
Porter is the champion here and he won it against Danny Garcia in a hard fought battle, some say a controversy decision but I dont think it was really a big controversy to be honest it was close but not a robbery. Porter fought great against Garcia, he did what he always does wich is coming forward, with him being the shorter guy 90% of the time, being agressive and fight in the inside where he feels the best.

Porter Vs Ugas Predictions Week 2 2018

Now I can understand boxing fans who doesnt like Porter because of his style, it’s true that he fight a little dirty to be honest, some headbutts, short punches in the clinches and some stuff like that so I understand but despite from that I believe Porter is a good fighter, definitely top 5, and the 2 losses that he has on his record dont mean much to be honest because it could have been go either way, both of the losses he had was a very close decision and was against champion who were at their prime and still he managed to give them a really really hard fight.
Porter vs ugas predictions week
Ugas is a fighter I’ve been watching for many years now but he never really reached the level where I said « Ok we may have a potential world champion here » To be honest I watched a lot of his fights back when he was a super light weight and recently when he went up to welter weight and I never really thought that he is world champion material at welter weight.
Now dont get me wrong, in my opinion Ugas is an underrated fighter, and I even thought at looking at him as an underdog with him being a 4.00+ underdog to be honest this is too much. He had almost 300 fights in amateurs, 2 time world champion amateur and bronze medals in olympics. Now it’s professional it’s an other world, the transition to amateurs and professional is hard and not everybody do it well. That’s why we see some olympian having bad career on profesional.
Porter vs ugas predictions
But still, his accomplishement in amateurs means something and he definitely has the talent, the footwork and the technique to cause Porter some trouble but recently I’ve seen him fighting in the inside too much, and when his opponents is at close distance he stays there and wants to exchange with him. Instead of using his reach and his height as his advantage
Predictions
And I think that will make him trouble against Porter because if you want to win Porter you will have to outpoint him and not getting into a fight, because that’s where he is the best at getting into a brawl and fightint in the inside, going to the body and to the head with shorts hooks and if Ugas will do what he recently doing wich mean staying in close distance with Porter I dont think it will be a good thing for him
Now I understand, Ugas has been looking good in welterweight, he is 8-0 since moving up but there is still the images in my head years ago when I see Ugas fighting and I thought yea not bad fighter but for me not champion caliber. Or even if he wins a title I dont think he will be able to keep it long at welterweight to be honest.
Ugas is durable and has a good chin, Porter despite being agressive I dont think he will stop Ugas in that one so if no injuries happening I see this one going the full 12 rounds where Porter with his agressive style, doing a little more each round winning a decision after a hard fight. I think Ugas will bring his best in that one for his world title fight, will give a hard fight to Porter bit I dont think it will be enough to win a decision.
